Fri, Dec 28 2007 - Hogarth Lakes - Easy Snow Shoe (View Original Event Details)
| ![]() |
What a phenomenal day to be out in the snow in our beautiful mountains! Hogarth Lakes area is so scenic I could go back again and again. Ed and I finally got the actual snowshoe trail navigated the way I think it was intended to be travelled - so woo-hoo for that, although no matter where you travel in the area it's beautiful. We completed the route early so some with extra energy to spare decided to travel a bit up the Burstall Lakes trail, and some of us dawdled our way back to the parking lot.
Something new of note in the area is a very cool transceiver practice area. Transmitters have been placed in various locations for those with receivers to find. A couple of young fellows were practicing when we went by and gave me some instructions as to how it is intended to be used so I think I foresee an avalanche training posting coming up in my future.
Another important note: as we were starting our way up the Burstall Lakes trail a x-country skier came barreling down the trail at a very fast speed and was out of control and crashed into a snow bank near us. I'd caution others planning to travel the trail to stay in a single file to the far right side of the trail for at least the first part of the trail. I agree that x-country skiers should be travelling at a safe speed through that multi-use area, but apparently they do not always do that. I'm so thankful she didn't take someone in our group out with her.
