It is hard to imagine more rain than what was pelting down this morning in Calgary; but Calgary is not Boom Lake, and for the seven who decided to take a chance on the hike, the decision was the right one. The rain eased just after the turn off to Cochrane, and by the time we reached the trail head, it had pretty well stopped. The trail is in excellent condition - a few muddy spots, but the rest was dry and good. When we arrived at the lake, after about 1.5 hours, the sun was shining - which meant this beautiful jewel of a lake was glistening, as was the snow on the surrounding peaks. This is a beautiful spot, and we relaxed over lunch for about 45 minutes. The return trip was in the sunshine, and by 2 pm, we were back at the trail head. Five of us decided to cram into one car, and head to Silverton Falls. The hike to the falls is less than a kilometre, with a fair climb. But with the snow melt and recent rain, the waterfall was a spectacular sight - particularly with the sun shining on it. This side trip took about 1/2 hour, so we were back in the city by 4:30 pm. A terrific day - about 12 kms, with 250 metre gain in total. Thanks to all of you who took a chance and came out - and to Alex for his excellent driving when the coordinator decided she needed a nap.
