It was a day full of surprises -- of the very best kind!!
Way more snow than anticipated greeted us, first along the Spray Lakes road, then on the actual trail. Apparently this area had a localized storm last week dumping up to 30cm. Rummel is a difficult trail to navigate at the best of times, so of course we got completely lost within the first hour since we couldn't see the trail anywhere. We never did find Rummel Lake, but what we did find was amazing snow and scenery and I have to say it ended up being the 2nd best snow-shoe outing I've had this year! We got the true snowshoe experience! A few took turns breaking trail with short stops to negotiate where we wanted to go next. Stepping off the trail meant waist-deep snow!
Group size was larger than I anticipated or would typically plan for - after last week's huge number of last minute drop-offs I decided to add a few extra onto this event, and we ended up with 16! And what a great group we had! Lots of fun and friendly, and a great team effort for route-finding and track-setting. Thanks everyone!
A special thanks to Marek for your help with an emergency snowshoe repair - it held up well for the return trip :)
I had a fantastic day and am so happy to have had the opportunity to spend it with all of you!
