Itinerary: | |||||||
Distance - 12 km, round trip
Elevation Gain - 810 m Proper hiking footwear required-sorry no runners or jeans. Wasootch Ridge offers an interesting series up climbs and decents all the way to the final cairn. The ascents are persistent up a long ridge on the east side of Kananaskis Valley. Once on top of the ridge you'll get 360 degree views all around. We will not do the extended part beyond the ridge and stop right at the cairn on the ridge where the terrain is flat and have lunch here.
We never know what we will encounter(icy sections) therefore some form of ice traction is probably a good idea to bring on every winter hike in the mountains. "MicroSpikes" (MEC or Campers Village) or "ICERS" (Lee Valley Tools) are great!

Winter Safety Considerations Entered by Sylvia A. and Kevin V. on March 4, 2010 Terrain Classification: Classification: Class 1 Conditions: MODERATE for Alpine Plan: We will follow the trail up to the ridge..flat area/up to the cairn...we will not go beyond this whereby the last 1 km is a scramble/challenging. Before starting hike we will stop at info centre to inquire on conditions, if not favorable will change plans. Note that COC event coordinators are volunteers and are not trained guides. All participants are responsible for assessing the current road conditions, current weather conditions, current trail conditions and current avalanche conditions for the trip. - Details of this event are subject to undergo a change at any point in time, with or without warning. - Notice any errors or problems in the information on this page?
