Backpacker training event: Today we are going to relocate the West Ed mall to Balzac, or as it is affectionally known by the locals as 'Malzac.'

Rumor has it that Edmonton has mall envy because southern Alberta has a newer, brighter, prettier mall with a Bass Brothers outdoor emporium. In the spirit of sharing what we have in the south, the COC has graciously volunteered to move the West Ed mall to Malzac so that they can be as one, and Edmontonians can also share in the newness, brightness and prettiness. Since backpacking season will soon be upon us, this it will be the ultimate training event!

The Plan: we will attach a lot of bungee cords to all the doors of the mall and pull .... everyone in the same direction .... southward. It should take only a few tugs until it starts to go! Rhonda has LOTS of bungee cords, enough for all of us! Once we get it moving, Nemo will be pulling WEM down the highway and we will need a lot of people on all sides to help steer and push WEM up some of the bigger hills.

Alternatively, you can choose your favorite store to pack up in your backpack and then carry it down that way!

We're going to have a bit of a hole to fill on the west end after we're done and just so there's no hard feelings, we'll do a bit of trail maintenance after we pull the WEM out and turn it into a lovely green space. Garden gnome donations appreciated.

Join us for beer and other refreshments afterwards!

Required Items to Bring:
- COC gear so that we can be easily identified as volunteers.
- chains and rope
- Large empty pack, for packing up a store in if needed
- Boots with grip
- Work gloves
- Water and a large lunch

Carpool Cost: Approximate vehicle expense for this event is $78.00 (calculated at total Km * $0.26, effective Thursday, June 20, 2019). This is based on $0.15/Km for maintenance, plus current gas price divide by 9. Note that drivers with large vehicles have the option to adjust this cost based on their vehicles. Your carpool driver will confirm exactly how much money they require to cover costs. Please split the actual amount among all people in the vehicle and bring some change as drivers are not expected to carry change.
