Join us to celebrate Ed's 89th birthday !! His actual birthday was yesterday, so this is Part 2 for those who work M-F!

Note: Karen D is coordinating the event, and Judy is coordinating the carpool.

ICERS or Yaktraks are MANDATORY - If you do not have icers or yaktraks, please do not sign up!

We will marvel at the unsurpassed view of Banff and the Bow Valley in a breathtaking journey to the top of Sulphur Mountain. We will have lunch at the top - you may bring your own lunch or buy something at the restaurant. We will then hike down the mountain.

After we hike, we will be stopping at the Rimrock for a celebratory drink with Ed, and then decide where to have a birthday dinner with Ed (either in Banff or Canmore).Please do not be in a rush to get back to Calgary - our return time will be approximately 8:00PM.

Note that COC event coordinators are volunteers and are not trained guides. All participants are responsible for assessing the current road conditions, current weather conditions, current trail conditions and current avalanche conditions for the trip.

- National Park Pass or $
- Hiking shoes or boots
- Layered clothing
- Lunch or purchase at restaurant
- Water
- Raingear (no matter the weather forecast)
- Warm clothing

How to Get There:
Event Directions:Take Hwy 1, (Trans Canada Hwy) west to Banff National Park. Take the Banff, Lake Minnewanka exit and turn left at the stop sign onto Banff Ave. Follow Banff Ave thru town and across Bow River Bridge. At “T” intersection after the bridge, turn left. After a few hundred metres around a bend, to the right is a fork in the road, bear right onto Mountain Ave. After about 5 minutes you’ll see the Rim Rock Hotel on your left, keep going for a hundred metres bearing right until you come to a small traffic circle which is in front of the parking lot of the Banff Upper Hot Springs. We will be parking in this lot for both the hike, trail head is right there.

Carpool Cost: Approximate vehicle expense for this event is $81.00 (calculated at total Km * $0.30, effective Thursday, April 18, 2024). This is based on $0.16/Km for maintenance, plus current gas price divide by 9. Alternately your carpool driver may choose to split the maintenance cost plus the actual gas cost among all in the vehicle. Your carpool driver will confirm exactly how much money they require to cover costs. Please split the actual cost among all people in the vehicle.
