| Itinerary: | |||||||
| Yet another saturday morning walk. Breathe in the crisp mountain air, have lunch at Prairie View Lookout overseeing Barrier Lake and then come back down.
A popular trail in the Kananaskis area with excellent views. We will cross Barrier Dam and take Prairie View Trail to the lookout. The grade is persistent (aka keeps going up) with a series of switchbacks. The trail is wide and normally easier in dry conditions. However, expect it to be more difficult and icy given the winter conditions (treat this as a D4 difficulty level).
NOTE: ICERS ARE MANDATORY
Distance : 12 km return to Prairie View lookout
We will be hiking at a moderate pace [Ben's moderate pace that is, which can be slow or fast depending on which side of the bed he got up on], which means slower on steep hills to go up maybe faster on the not so steep bits. If you're not sure about a hike, please always feel free to contact the coordinator's and remember to always hike within your ability.
If you have never hiked or recently hiked with 500M+ or you are switching from URBAN HIKES to mountain hikes, it is highly recommended that you start with lower elevations and build up from there. This won't be a slowpoke event.
