Come and join us on this hike and get your exercise "fix." The early part of the trip is along fairly level trail with most of the elevation gain being in the last 3 km. Once the pass has been reached a wonderful view of the Powder Creek Valley is available.

Please note that we will take a few breaks/snacks/water however please note that we will not be stopping every 10 minutes for a break. We will have lunch at the pass.

PLEASE NOTE: Do not be in a rush to return to Calgary, we are out to enjoy the day and time may vary.

PLS NOTE: At this time of year icers/micro-spikes are required; you never know what you will encounter. No icers = no hike -- sorry.

TIP for NW members:If you live in the NW, probably a good idea to meet directly at the trailhead.

PACE: Please note that this is not a speed demon's hike (getting to the top in record time) nor is it for very slowpokes. We will be hiking at a CASUAL pace on flat sections and at a SLOWER pace on steeper terrain. If you can not follow this pace, pls do not sign up. If you're not sure about a hike, feel free to contact the coordinator and remember to always hike within your ability in order to be able to keep up with the group. If you have NOT hiked before or nor RECENTLY hiked with 405M+, this hike is not for you. If you're used to "very slow-paced hikes" this hike is not for you. This is not a slowpoke hike.

PLS come prepared -- we are still hiking in winter conditions; this is alot more work to hike in snow then on regular summer trail.. there is snow/ice on a lot of the trails on the various mountain hikes.

Required Items to Bring:
-No icers=no hike - sorry.
-Hiking footwear - sorry no runners, jeans or sweatpants.
-- Gaiters strongly recommended
- 2 pairs of gloves.(You sweat going up, so if you don't have an extra pair in your pack to switch to your hands will freeze.)
-2 pairs of socks...if your boots are not waterproof or your feet just get cold with snow going into your boots and you don't have a dry pair to switch to, your feet will freeze.
-Usually very windy at the top. Extra layer under hiking pants (if it's cold/a lot of snow and you just have one layer of regular, very light hiking pants and they get wet, you will freeze).
-Well-equipped day pack
- Bag for dirty boots
- Lunch and water (1 litre min.)
- Remember to dress in layers, we are still hiking in winter conditions.

Use our Event Checklists to make sure you have everything you need.

How to Get There:
get back on Macleod Trail south & exit out of town on Hwy #22X westbound (Marquis of Lorne Trail). If you drive by Spruce Meadows you know you're heading in the right direction. Hwy #22X turns into Hwy #22 - keep going westbound. The 22 turns into Hwy #66. Follow Hwy #66 up until the winter gate (opposite side is Elbow Falls) and park there, near the gate on the side of the road. We will have to walk from the gate to the Powderface Creek parking lot.
Follow the Trans-Canada Highway (Hwy #1) to the Hwy #22 overpass. Follow Hwy #22 through Bragg Creek to the four-way stop at the strip mall and turn left to Hwy #66 junction. At the junction, turn right and follow Hwy #66. Follow Hwy #66 up until the winter gate (opposite side is Elbow Falls) and park there, by the gate on the side of the road. We will have to walk from the gate to the Powderface Creek parking lot.
