"Who's Trashing the Oceans and Waterways?" Be a Data Detective! This week people all across Canada will be participating in the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup!
The Ocean Conservancy will analyze the data we collect today to determine what activities are likely to be causing the debris in our area. The information will be used to help develop solutions for pollution problems associated with coastal and water-borne debris. Marine and other aquatic debris is more than an unsightly inconvenience; it is one of the world's most pervasive pollution problems affecting our waterways. For more information: Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup Our group will be cleaning an area along an urban waterway: Confederation Park Pond and Creek (photo above). We will sweep the entire area along the creek from 10th Street up to 14th Street and around the pond, an area which gets a lot of use throughout the year. Our job is to pick up AND RECORD the trash that's littering our waterways for the research project. Please be sure all the items you collect get recorded onto one of the recording sheets. PLEASE READ CAREFULLY BEFORE SIGNING UP and come prepared: * Washrooms are available at the Parks office east of 10th Street, about a 10 min walk from 10th Street.
