Have you ever wanted to hike on a glacier? Here is your chance !!!

A GUIDED afternoon Icewalk takes you across the lower Athabasca Glacier. It provides a great opportunity to see the surface of an active glacier and such features as millwells, meltwater streams, and if you're lucky, ice avalanches -from a safe distance, of course!

Karen is the coordinator of event (payments/cancellations to be sent to her), Ed is coordinating the carpool only.

Please be advised that your spot is not reserved until you have paid. The first people who pay will take priority. You will be removed from the list, and put to the back of the wait list if your payment is not received within same day as registration. Please DO NOT register unless you then immediately arrange for payment - your payment is due at registration - Karen will send you the security question and answer once you sign up, and then you can proceed with the etransfer to Karen's email address,.

Those on the waitlist: Do not pay unless you are registered as an attendee. You will be notified via email should this occur - then proceed with payment immediately.

Accepted Method of payment:

Paypal, cash or cheques are NOT ACCEPTED for this event. Please e-mail me indicating that you have sent your payment.

Note: DO NOT make any plans for the afternoon or evening as we will be stopping in Lake Louise, Banff, or Canmore for supper which is mandatory due to carpool. Supper is not mandatory for those who meet at event and are not part of carpool.

If you have plans, or anticipate an early return, DO NOT sign-up for this event.

Expected return to carpool anywhere from 9:30p.m. to 11:00p.m....

PLEASE REMEMBER
• Participants will be required to sign a waiver of liability and release of all claims.
• There is a steep trail leading to the glacier, and glacier ice can be very slippery.
• Weather and ice conditions can change in a short time or distance.
• On the glacier, you must remain with the group.
• Individual events may be shortened or altered due to weather or ice conditions.


Required Items to Bring:
- $$ Nt'l Park day pass or National Park Pass
- Warm clothing (bring various layers - can leave some in car if it is a warm day - never want to wish you had it !)
- Hiking Boots
- Sunscreen
- Lunch for on the road
- Snacks
- $$ For Supper
Recommended Items to Bring:
Use our Event Checklists to make sure you have everything you need.
Tour operator will supply the following if you do not bring:
- Raingear
- Hat & Gloves
- Instep crampons

You may want to bring:
- Camera
- Binoculars


How to Get There:
Event Directions:Hwy 1 West to Hwy 93 South.
Hwy 93 South to Columbia Icefield Centre
At the icefield, follow signs for the "Road to Glacier". We meet in the parking lot nearest the glacier, by the foot bridge (washrooms are located across the street at the Icefield Centre).

Carpool Cost: Approximate vehicle expense for this event is $195.00 (calculated at total Km * $0.30, effective Thursday, April 18, 2024). This is based on $0.16/Km for maintenance, plus current gas price divide by 9. Alternately your carpool driver may choose to split the maintenance cost plus the actual gas cost among all in the vehicle. Your carpool driver will confirm exactly how much money they require to cover costs. Please split the actual cost among all people in the vehicle.

Cancellation/Partial Attendance:
*Note: If you have to cancel after your payment is received, you will need to find your replacement and let me know who they are. I will determine whether they are fit to attend the event, and if so, will then remove you from the attendee list and put them on it.
It is up to you to collect your refund from your replacement...

Refunds (minus transaction fee) will be issued if the Tour operator cancels due to a bad weather day.
