Elevation Gain: Approx 1050m
Possible Obstacles: Scree, some slabs, hands on scrambling, exposed ridge, route finding

Mount Rae is classed in Alan Kane’s book as an moderate scramble. Mt. Rae is an impressive 3,220m peak offering impressive views from the summit. From the trailhead we begin hiking up through the sub alpine larches into Ptarmigan Cirque. From the back of the cirque, we ascend steep scree slopes as we aim for a high col separating Mount Rae and an unnamed peak. This col sits at 3,018m. From the col we climb up the ridge towards large pinnacles and will either climb them directly or traverse around them. After that it is onto the narrow summit ridge and the summit which lies at 3,220m. Please note that portions of the ridge are exposed; however, we will proceed carefully and slowly. We will return the way we came.

Please do not be in a rush to get back to town as we may stop in Canmore for a bite/drink.
