Itinerary:
The human body is a great compensator. If any particular muscle is injured, the surrounding muscles will alter their function to enable an individual to continue the activity. However, over time, the brain can 'forget' a particular muscle and the compensated state becomes the new normal, impairing smooth functioning of the body.

COC Member Sarah Kuindersma will give an overview of Muscle Activation Techniques (MAT) and how it reconnects dormant muscle groups, which helps a person to improve their stability, increase their range of motion and improve their performance.

MAT is a systematic approach to finding the body's underlying muscular imbalances and compensations through a full range of motion (ROM) evaluation. This evaluation identifies areas of weakness and instability that prevent the body from performing at its full potential.

Once a position of limitation is found, the muscles surrounding the area are tested for neurological deficiency. If they test as 'weak/inhibited' or unable to contract, a variety of isometric ande touch techniques are applied to improve the area with the goal of regaining proper muscular function.

Participants will be expected to complete a pre-evaluation form and bring it to the presentation. After the presentation, participants will be evaluated and given specific areas to help improve identified areas of instability.
