This popular trail leads up through forest to lovely Chester Lake, one of the most rewarding destinations in the area - a place where wildflower-studded meadows meet rugged slopes at treeline. The grade is steady uphill, and the first 2.7 km on old logging roads are open to cyclists. Be prepared for plenty of company on this trail on weekends.

From the trail sign map beside the washrooms at the northeast corner end of the parking lot, follow the wide gravel path as it climbs moderately. Keeping left at the two signed junctions will bring you to the end of the bike trail.

Here the road reverts to a hiking trail, and there is more climbing toward the lake basin. About an hour from the trailhead, the grade finally eases, and spruce forest gives way to larch trees and hummocky meadows. Soon Chester Lake is in view, backdropped by the tilted rocky layers on Mt. Chester.

After Chester Lake, we will proceed up to the Elephant Rocks.

Please note, this is Not a slow poke hike. Need for speed hikers will have to slow down. We will be hiking as a group and will be going at a steady pace.

This trail did suffer some flood damage which we may need to navigate around.
