This circuit, also known as the Emerald Triangle, is considered one of the best in the Rockies. The trail rises high above Emerald Lake and offers excellent views of the lake and surrounding peaks. See Trip 52 in "Don't Waste Your Time in the Rockies."

We will start at the shores Emerald Lake, go east along the lake and ascend the steep switchbacks to Burgess Pass, then travel north along the Wapta Highline trail, at Yoho Pass we will take a side trip to Yoho Lake, then travel west along the Yoho Pass trail, and finally descend to the shores of Emerald Lake.

Please Note: we will be briefly stopping at the Samson Mall in Lake Louise prior to starting the event. Also if you are looking for a fast paced event or are in a rush to get back to Calgary, this is not the event for you.

- water (long day - be prepared...2-3 litres)
- lunch & snacks
- hiking boots
- rain & wind gear regardless of the weather forecast
- clothing for variable weather conditions (no cotton)
- bag to place your muddy/dirty boots in
- park pass or $$ for entry into national park

Event Directions:From Calgary head west on the Trans Canada Hwy past Alberta/BC border. 0.2km after Field turn right onto Emerald Lake Road, continue 8km to Emerald Lake parking lot.

Carpool Cost: Approximate vehicle expense for this event is $133.50 (calculated at total Km * $0.30, effective Thursday, March 28, 2024). This is based on $0.16/Km for maintenance, plus current gas price divide by 9. Alternately your carpool driver may choose to split the maintenance cost plus the actual gas cost among all in the vehicle. Your carpool driver will confirm exactly how much money they require to cover costs. Please split the actual cost among all people in the vehicle.
