Road Trip!

Have lunch in a haunted ghost town, Wayne AB.
Visit the Badlands - Horsethief Canyon.
Have dinner in Drumheller.
Then get scared out of our boots at the night's feature special, the Haunting in East Coulee at the Historic Atlas Coal Mine.
All in a day's festive fare.

We'll all be travelling in a group van out there and be back in Calgary very very late at night just in time for the rest of the walking dead (aka Zombies) to greet us at our doors. (Note your driver is not a professional driver but does have Zombie dodging experience).

The Highlights:
Wayne, Alberta
11 bridges to Wayne and Lunch. Deep in the heart of Alberta’s Badlands, ghostowners can find the tiny village of Wayne, once a thriving coal-mining town of more than 3,000. But now, the ghosts are knocking in Wayne, which has witnessed its population dwindle to about 40 diehard souls. Abandoned homes, mining artifacts scatter the Badlands landscape. Today, with its Main Street barely visible, only the Rosedeer Hotel and The Last Chance Saloon hangs on. The hotel, built in 1913 is the only structure remaining of the mining days. Inside the Saloon you will find the walls covered with old black and white photographs of Wayne, the coal mines plus a collection of mining gear and a whole lot of antiques.

Note: You are responsible for paying for your own lunch and dinner.

Horsethief Canyon,Alberta
Horsethief Canyon offers some of the best Badlands scenery in Canada. Looking into the canyon you’ll see lunar-like coulees, ancient bone beds, and various Badlands wildlife species. Surrounding the canyon are brilliant yellow canola fields spotted with giant rocking pump jacks (landscapes just don’t get more Albertan than that). Note: We'll be hiking a bit in the canyon. Some of the slopes can be a bit on the steep side. Bring poles and shoes with good grip.

Bleriot Ferry
On the Dinosaur Trail take the Bleriot Ferry where you and your vehicle can cross the Red Deer River on one of the last-remaining cable-operated ferries in Alberta.

THE HAUNTED ATLAS COAL MINE HISTORIC SITE - BIG BOO! SCARY EVENT
The Atlas Coal Mine National Historic Site is one of the most complete coal mining museums in Canada. A visit to this historical attraction is fun and fascinating. Dig into the darkest years of Alberta's past. Wander through an intact ghostly historic landscape, in a stunningly haunting Badlands setting AT NIGHT! Climb the last wooden tipple in Canada. Hear the screams of the dead men who dug for coal. Fun for everyone. WARNING: Participants of the Haunted Atlas Coal Mine Tour may encounter the tortured souls of the Headless Miner, Not-So Pretty Alice, and the Gothic Miner. Wear a costume if you like(optional but nice to have!!) but dress for chills. "Big Boo" is a scary affair not recommended for the faint of heart (or anyone under 18)

NOTE:
1) Participants should be willing to partake in all group activities. There will be various sub groups at each attraction.
2)Bring a costume for the evening if you like (Optional but nice!)
3) Itinerary subject to change depending on how fast or slow we move
4) We will back in Calgary back close to midnight
5)THIS TIME OF THE YEAR, WHEN THE WIND BLOWS IT'S COLDER. BRING ADEQUATE CLOTHING, PREFERABLY WINDPROOF AND NOT COTTON.
6) We will be travelling out together in a minivan
7) The driver of the minivan is the coordinator (with a great driving record) and not a professional driver

9) Should payment not be received within a week of registration you may be moved off the event.

- Sturdy walking shoes. No cotton clothing please.
- Adequate warm clothing
- $$ for lunch and dinner
- A flashlight
- A friend...preferably someone braver than yourself.
- Water and snacks for yourself
