Please read all the information below before

This trip is for intermediate (and above) skiers (no beginners please). One should be comfortable skiing at least 15 kms with ~250m elevation gain in 3-4 hrs on variable snow conditions with a large pack. Trails are both machine and skier tracked. From the Elk Pass trailhead in Peter Lougheed Provincial Park, we will ski to the Elk Lakes Cabin on Monday which is ~ 10 kms, ski trails around the cabin on Tuesday, and ski back out to our vehicles and return to Calgary on Wednesday. On the way in, first we climb to the top of Elk Pass, then we ski a long downhill to the cabin on skier tracked trails. On the way back, we must first climb a long big hill to the top of the pass, then ski down to our cars. Every participant is responsible for their breakfasts and lunches. As for dinner please indicate whether you prefer pot luck or individual dinner during registration. If majority decides to do potluck I'll send out details later. Also, everyone will be expected to help with chores such as keeping the wood stove going, gathering and boiling water, cleaning dishes, etc. The cabin has cooking facilities and sleeping accommodations (beds and foam mattresses), but you need to bring a reasonably warm sleeping bag. This trip requires Back country skis (i.e. light touring XC skis) with skins or normal XC skis with snowshoes for climbing the hill. They can be rented at MEC. Optionally you can bring AT gear if you prefer it. For more info see www.alpineclubofcanada.ca/facility/elklakes.html | |||||||
