Bring the right equipment and the right attitude for this FUN & "REFRESHING" outing as we go and enjoy the Kananaskis Country. A popular trail in the Kananaskis area with some rewarding views. We will cross Barrier Dam and climb from that point on. The weather forecast is looking promising for Saturday.

Expect snow and some ice at higher elevation so if you do not like hiking in the snow, please do not register for this event...

PACE: Slower on the uphills but Moderate on flat terrain. "IF" you are use to slowpoke hikes this is not for you. "IF" you are looking for a fast pace event, this is not for you. Please expect to stay as a group. Thank you for your consideration toward other members and the co-ordinator.

Hike description

A popular trail in the Kananaskis area because of its early season with excellent views. We will cross Barrier Dam and climb from that point on. The grade is persistent and we climb using a series of switchbacks. With nearly continuous climbing through the trees, we will reach the ridge. The trail narrows and becomes steeper in the last 200m before the cliff top. The cliff top itself is an ideal spot and is great to linger here, to take in the views and snap photographs.

*** The trail conditions will dictate whether or not we go all the way to the Barrier Lake lookout.

If you are switching from URBAN HIKES to mountain hikes, it is highly recommended that you start with lower elevations and build up from there.
