Itinerary:
IMPORTANT - Read:
ˇ This is an explorer hike. Expect lots of route-finding, off-trail hiking, a short scrambling crux, a ridgewalk,
and the potential that we will not be able to connect to the proper summit due to the crux.
ˇ Pace will be relaxed, but note that there will be tricky sections.
ˇ Bringing a rock helmet is mandatory or you will not be allowed to attend.
You must e-mail your coordinator immediately after signing up that you have a rock helmet, or you will be automatically moved to the waiting list.
ˇ Do not be in a rush to get back to the city. We are out to explore and event duration may vary. Note that on most of my big days we don't get back until late evening.

This link shows the loop that we will hike. Please familiarize yourself with this as it shows you the terrain. Note that this is not the typical out-and-back way to the lookout.

Distance: 16km
Elevation Gain: 880m
Trailhead Elevation: 1,605m
Summit Elevation: 2,541m
Difficulty: D6, but could turn into D7, depending on intensity of bushwhacking, route-finding, and the conditions at the crux

Mount Burke offers panoramic views over the Highwood area in southern Kananaskis Country. Note that this is an explorer event, which will not be an out and back up to the lookout, but instead will be an off-trail exploration to turn the trip into a loop with an extensive ridgewalk. There is no guarantee that we will reach the actual summit as there is a 3m crux (scramble) up just below it; we will need to assess conditions when we get to that point. Expect a good portion of route-finding, some slogging, and some loose rock sections. Rock helmets are absolutely mandatory or you will not be allowed to attend. This is the route that we will follow:
