Update from June 26, 6:30pm: The trail report is now showing bear warnings for both Kindersley and Sinclair. We will therefore hike to Floe Lake instead. This trail will be 21km return with 715m of elevation gain. It is snowbound; expect winter conditions and bring your snowshoes if you have any.

IMPORTANT - Read:

Those not claimed by NCT people by June 23 will be given to people on the wait list.
   · This is also a potluck event to keep the Canada Day long weekend tradition going.
Please bring 1-2 bites (not more) per person to share.
   · Do not be in a rush to get back to the city. Pace is relaxed and event duration may vary.

Distance: 18.6km if no car shuttle. 17.4km with car shuttle.
Elevation Gain: 1,055m

Description from Kootenay National Park GemTrek Map:
This is one of the most spectacular day hikes for views and wildflowers in the southern [art of Kootenay National Park. It leads through lush vegetation studded with wildflowers to a lofty alpine col offering fabulous views. We will complete this hike in a clockwise loop.
The well-graded trail ascends through an evergreen forest and views open up at km 2.7 when you reach the first avalanche path. The trail returns to forest and at km 6.1 crosses more avalanche paths and enters a basin where glacier lilies abound through July.
The trail sign at Kindersley Pass on the park boundary offers limited views, but it does signal the start of the most memorable section of the trail. This is a glorious ramble through sub- alpine terrain, then across open slopes where you top out on barren, windswept Kindersley- Sinclair Col, a small saddle between two slightly higher peaks. (Those with time and energy to spare can scramble up the ridge line to panoramic views from the rocky peak to the southeast).
From the col, the trail drops east rapidly into a basin that can be covered by heavy snowpack into late July. Look for cairns and markers to help find your way. The trail becomes better defined near the head of Sinclair Creek, which is crosses after about 100m. By the time you begin your descent into lush forest along Sinclair Creek, you are on a well-worn path. You cross the creek on a footbridge to the west side at km 14.5, and soon arrive at Sinclair Creek trailhead. From there it is an easy 1.2km roadside walk back to the cars.
