Itinerary:

Distance: 18Km (or less if you turn around before
Elevation gain: ~ 250m
Pace: Your own speed

The trail is easy, out and back, no sharp turns. The way out is almost entirely uphill, the fun is on the way back. You go on your own speed and are expected to be back 2.5 to 3 hours after we start.

The trail climbs gradually with some flat and some gentle rolling stretches. It ends at a view-point where the road curves and begins to make its way up to the Valley of the Ten Peaks. Beyond this viewpoint, the road crosses large avalanche paths and is not open for us.

We will have a scheduled break at the turn-around point. The downhill takes about 20 to 30 min less than the way up.

We may go for drinks and snacks after the event, likely at the hostel so please keep this in mind for carpooling.

Winter Safety Considerations

Terrain Classification: This event is exempted from avalanche planning because it is on a groomed cross-country ski trail in simple (class I) terrain. The terrain past the end of the track set on Moraine Lake Road is rated as avalanche terrain and is strictly forbidden for COC events posted as a cross-country ski event in simple terrain.
Note that COC event coordinators are volunteers and are not trained guides. All participants are responsible for assessing the current road conditions, current weather conditions, current trail conditions and current avalanche conditions for the trip.
