Distance: 6.3 km one way Elevation gain: 585 m This event is not recommended for beginner snowshoers. We will not go beyond the end of the trail at the east end of the lake as this will no longer be in Class 1 Avalanche Terrain.
Note that COC event
coordinators are volunteers and not trained
guides. All participants are responsible for
assessing the current road conditions, current
weather conditions and current trail conditions
for the trip they are attending. This challenging trail ends in a scenic hanging valley below Mount Bell. We’ll start 8km west of Castle Junction on the Trans-Canada Highway, snowshoe through a dense forest of pine trees and a meadow, to reach this beautiful alpine lake surrounded by impressive peaks: Mount Bell, Panorama Ridge, and the tip of Mt. Fay can also be seen.

Winter Safety
Considerations
Entered by Sheena on Jan.24, 2015. This trail is well treed for the first part until we reach an open meadow. We will not go beyond the end of the trail at the east side of the lake; or take the connecting trails to O'Brien Lake or Panorama Ridge, as that would expose us to non Class 1 Avelanche Terrain. As of today, the avalanche forecast for Banff Park is 'moderate' for below treeline and 'considerable' for treeline. - Details of this event are subject to undergo a change at any point in time, with or without warning. - Notice any errors or problems in the information on this page?
