Cumulative elevation: Approx 800m

This section of highway 40 is closed to motorized vehicles until June 15, all we have to watch out for are cyclists and animals.
This is the highest paved pass in Canada, so an interesting ride for that reason. 2206m at the top.

We will cycle up to the Highwood Pass from the winter gate west of Longview. The return distance is about 75 kms if we get all the way to the top of the pass. The elevation gain is about 500 meters although cumulative may be more around 800m by the end of the return. There is likely snow at the top that may prevent us from getting all the way to the top. Most years we can get pretty close by early June and besides last weeks snow the last month has been warmer.

The ride will be relaxed with the possibility of splitting in to smaller groups of different paces. We will determine a turn around time at the start to try to get everyone back about the same time.

There is the strong possibility that we will stop at a pub at the end of the ride.
