Itinerary:
(Important!!!) Please sign up ONLY when you have paid your fee to Parks Canada as described below. Reserve your spot at HI-Whiskey Jack Hostel is highly recommended. Walcott Quarry hikes depart at 7:15 a.m. MDT from the Takakkaw Falls parking lot. Hike ends at the same location.

Please arrive at 7:00 a.m. MDT to meet the guide and go through hike preparations. The Takakkaw Falls parking lot is a 14 kilometre (9 mile) drive from the Trans-Canada Highway; allow 30 minutes to drive from Field, British Columbia. The road to Takakkaw Falls is steep, with tight switchbacks. Leave trailers in the parking lot across from Monarch Campground.

This awe-inspiring hike to the Walcott Quarry takes you through a variety of mountain landscapes including stunning views of Emerald Lake. Wear sturdy hiking boots for this 10.5 hour, 21 km (13 mile) round trip hike 505 million years back in time. Limited to a maximum of 12 people, this fun and educational hike is an experience you will remember for a lifetime. Don't forget your camera!

This hike is very difficult and involves steep elevation gains of 825 metres (2710 feet) in challenging backcountry terrain. It is the equivalent of climbing all the stairs up and down again in a 234 story building over a 21 km (13 mile) distance. Ensure you are prepared for this level of difficulty and all weather conditions, including heavy rains and snow.
