Important Details
This event is for hikers who have recently completed some events with similar distance, elevation and pace.
Only sign up if you are willing to stick together and hike as a group and take time to enjoy the views.
We are out to enjoy the day and event duration may vary, do not be in a rush to get back to the city.
If the forecast turns nasty for this area, another more favourable location will be chosen.

Hike Description
Our destination of Rummel Pass is perched high above sandwiched between Mount Galatea and The Tower. Far below from the cairned Pass sits Lost Lake in the Galatea Valley and behind is the expansive alpine zone we will have just passed through with a backdrop of Mounts Birdwood and Smuts. The whole valley area and alpine zone looks dramatic plus feels desolate. What an ideal environment to celebrate the end of the harvest season and the onset of winter, otherwise known as Halloween . To get to Rummel Pass, we first hike roughly five kilometers that includes walking along a logging road, passing through a bush-filled meadow, hiking into the tree-lined forest then arriving at the jewel that sits below Mount Galatea, Rummel Lake. Next, a short distance beyond the Lake we enter the alpine zone then make our way up to Rummel Pass which will be our lunch location and our turn-around spot. NOTE: Costumes are not mandatory to participate in this adventure . If you choose to sport attire (something simple or elaborate) to acknowledge this occasion (I will be), be sure it does not compromise your safety on the trail or the workings of your technical clothing to keep you warm and dry.

Take Highway 1 west toward Canmore. Exit onto Three Sisters Parkway and follow the signs toward the Canmore Nordic Centre. Continue past the Nordic Centre and head south onto the Smith- Dorrien Highway (gravel road) for approximately 35km. Park on east side of the road, just north of the turn-off for Mount Engadine Lodge and Mount Shark.

Approximate vehicle expense for this event is $95.70 (calculated at total Km * $0.33, effective Friday, July 17, 2026). This is based on $0.16/Km for maintenance, plus current gas price divide by 9. Alternately your carpool driver may choose to split the maintenance cost plus the actual gas cost among all in the vehicle. Your carpool driver will confirm exactly how much money they require to cover costs. Please split the actual cost among all people in the vehicle.
