Distance: ~15 - 22KM return or ski till you are tired. Elevation: negligible Pace:Ski at your own pace. +++Drivers Needed:If you are a driver, pls indicate in "notes- comments" how many folks including yourself + gear can fit in your car.+++. Time to get out and ski! It's snowed here and more snow forecast over the next few days + the temp will be nice - not cold. This trip is for all levels from beginner to advanced. Both skate and classic skiers are welcome. This is a "go at your own pace event" You can turn back anytime you want. You can go as far or as little as you want. One continuous straight trail. We'll begin at the Great Divide Trailhead and follow the old 1A towards the west. The trail is fairly flat and track set trail with some gently rolling stretches. We will go to the Great Divide picnic area (7.5 km one way), or if you have the energy you can continue 3.5km more(one way) and head into Yoho National park OR if you don't want to ski all the way to the picnic area you don't have to and return via the same trail at anytime you feel like it. A dogsled operation runs on its own track for the first 2 km. Do not be in a rush to return to Calgary, we are out to enjoy the day and return time may vary. If the weather "turns"to very bad, the event will get cancelled. You will need to check your emails the evening before and also in the morning of event in case it gets cancelled. Winter Safety Considerations Entered by Sylvia Angelini on Nov 12, 2015 Terrain Classification: This event is exempted from avalanche planning because it is on groomed cross-country ski trails Note that COC event coordinators are volunteers and are not trained guides. All participants are responsible for assessing the current road conditions, current weather conditions, current trail conditions and current avalanche conditions for the trip.

Carpool Cost: | Approximate vehicle expense for this event is $108.00 (calculated at total Km * $0.30, effective Thursday, March 28, 2024). This is based on $0.16/Km for maintenance, plus current gas price divide by 9. Alternately your carpool driver may choose to split the maintenance cost plus the actual gas cost among all in the vehicle. Your carpool driver will confirm exactly how much money they require to cover costs. Please split the actual cost among all people in the vehicle.
Notes: | |||||||
If the forecast changes and the weather "turns" the event will be
cancelled. You will need to check your emails the morning of

Winter Safety Considerations Entered by Sylvia A. on November Terrain Classification: This event is exempted from avalanche planning because it is on groomed cross-country ski trails. We will not be continuing past the viewpoint as that area enters into avalanche terrain. Note that COC event coordinators are volunteers and are not trained guides. All participants are responsible for assessing the current road conditions, current weather conditions, current trail conditions and current avalanche conditions for the trip.
