Itinerary:
Back by popular demand !! Milk River to Writing–on–Stone Provincial Park. I love overnight canoe trips. Who's joining me? Class I – II Unique prairie scenery, coulees and river characterized by rock gardens and some undercurrents. Water Levels at the Milk River Bridge will be confirmed prior to leaving Calgary. There are some technical corners and boulders to maneuver through. But for those with limited canoeing experience or wanting just some relaxed canoeing this is the trip for you. Canoes and gear provided by Milk River Rafting Tours Each person who registers will be contacted to clarify comfort and experience. Itinerary: Time of departure Friday afternoon negotiable. Friday evening camp overnight in Gold Spring Park 10km N of Coutts. Canoes rented through Milk River Raft Tours. Depart. Saturday morning for Poverty Rock (33 River Kms) Overnight at Poverty Rock. Depart. Sunday morning for Writing On Stone (20 River Kms) Return boats to Milk River. Travel back to Calgary for early evening. We may/probably take an extra night returning on Monday. Safety Talk to happen Saturday morning prior to launching. We will do group potluck meals except for lunches & snacks. All fresh water needs to be brought with us on the river. Menu to come out after group numbers are established. Gear List: Transport Canada minimal equipment requirements will be met for each boat; life jacket. Bailer Buoyant line Spare paddle Sound signal device on each boater Inaddtion; Rope to secure gear in boat Waterproof bags or containers for all gear Fresh water for Sat/Sun Firewood for Saturday night Water shoes that secure to the foot. For accidental swims, scouting or portaging First Aid Kit in each boat The group gear and transportation arrangements to be determined, once group numbers are established. Carpool Cost: Approximate vehicle expense for this event is $245.00 (calculated at total Km * $0.35, effective Monday, June 5, 2023). This is based on $0.16/Km for maintenance, plus current gas price divide by 9. Alternately your carpool driver may choose to split the maintenance cost plus the actual gas cost among all in the vehicle. Your carpool driver will confirm exactly how much money they require to cover costs. Please split the actual cost among all people in the vehicle.
