We'll take the gondola up to Sunshine Village, hike a loop of the three lakes and Wawa Ridge as described in the Gem Trek map (Banff Edition):

* Sunshine Village to Rock Isle Lake Viewpoint. 2.1 km, gain 105m. From the top of the gondola, at Sunshine Village, follow the gravel trail south as it ascends moderately, keeping left of the small log building. The trail crosses the Continental Divide at 2300m into BC's Mt. Assiniboine Provincial Park, then descends slightly to Rock Isle Lake. The boardwalk viewpoint is the quintessential Rocky Mountain Vista with a majestic backdrop of peaks reflecting into clear waters.

* Rock Isle Lake Viewpoint to Grizzly and Larix Lakes: 3.4 km return, gain 110m. Continuing from Rock Isle Lake Viewpoint above, descend left on the "Garden Path" into sub-alpine forest dotted with wildflowers (July, August). Here the short growing season and high winds leave the trees stunted and gnarled. Between Grizzly and Larix lakes is a superb viewpoint of the Simpson Valley.

* To Standish Lookout - Twin Cairns - Meadow Park: 4.1km, gain 210m. From Rock Isle Lake Viewpoint, it's a short but steep climb up the spur trail to Standish Lookout on the Continental Divide. Views from here stretch down to Rock Isle and Larix lakes, and southeast to Mt. Assiniboine. Continue north on the main Twin Cairns - Meadow Park Trail along Wawa Ridge. Turn right at Simpson Pass junction to descend on a path back to Sunshine Village.

Optional ride up the Standish lift for a look if there's time, and snacks at Mad Trappers pub before we head down.
