Pocaterra Ridge is a very scenic ridge walk when traveling from north to south. But DON'T mistake this for an easy hike, there is elevation gain/loss(cumulative gain 785M), rocky footing and in many places no trail. This is grizzly country, so we will stick together! There are 4 distinct peaks along the ridge, we will hit them all.

I plan to start in the north at Valley View Trail at Little Highwood Pass, travel south up on the ridge, connect onto the trail Little Highwood Pass, and exit in the south at Highwood Pass parking lot. This will involve a car shuffle.

IMPORTANT - Read:
Do not be in a rush to get back to Calgary.
We will be out to enjoy the day and event duration may vary.

Required Items to Bring:
2 litres of water, minimum.
Lunch and snacks
Hiking Boots with ankle support
Rain/wind gear and warm layer of clothing, no matter what the weather forecast is
Plastic bag for your dirty hiking boots for the way back

Recommended Items to Bring:

How to Get There:

Take Highway #1 to Highway #40, then head south about to Valley View Trail and Little Highwood Pass day use area on the west side of the highway. Note: We will stop briefly at the Little Highwood Pass Day Use Area to drop off participants and shuffle a vehicle to the other end and return to join the others.

Approximate vehicle expense for this event is $81.00 (calculated at total Km * $0.30, effective Thursday, April 18, 2024). This is based on $0.16/Km for maintenance, plus current gas price divide by 9. Alternately your carpool driver may choose to split the maintenance cost plus the actual gas cost among all in the vehicle. Your carpool driver will confirm exactly how much money they require to cover costs. Please split the actual cost among all people in the vehicle.
