Itinerary:
We will be going on a guided tour of the the Burgess Shale at Mount Stephens, one of the most significant fossil finds on earth. These exquisite fossils found in Yoho and Kootenay national parks are changing our understanding of evolution itself. Hike this short but challenging trail to the site where railway workers reported finding thousands of so-called ‘stone bugs'in the 1880’s. The sheer number of fossils at Mount Stephen has been described by some as comparable to stumbling upon a treasure frozen in time. You'll need good trail footwear. This hike is best suited for those who can very comfortably do a similar distance and elevation such as Prairie Mountain otherwise you'll be too busy catching your breath instead of enjoying the place. Expect all weather conditions, including heavy rains and snow.
Distance: 8km
Elevation: 800M
Tour duration: Approx 7hrs

The Plan:
Friday: Leave Calgary late afternoon, drive out to a campsite near Field for an overnight car camp and do a little potluck campfire cookout there. Fires permitting.
Saturday: Have an early breakfast then 7am arrive at the Yoho Visitor Centre for the start of the tour/hike. After the hike, we'll head over to Banff for dinner and a soak in the Hot Springs before heading home.

Note:
- Co-ed tent sharing since we're just getting one site. Cost quoted is based on all of us sharing the site.
- This is a fun anything goes event
- If you're not wanting to participate in all the activities then this event is not for you
- Speed will be moderate but definitely not for super slowpokes
- Be prepared for any kind of weather
- Do not be in rush to get back to Calgary. Most likely back very late.
