Itinerary:
Backcountry overnight. We'll be backpacking in to the crystal waters of a lake nestled in a stark, rockbound basin that is guarded by a steep headwall. Reaching the lake the hiker is rewarded immediately with brilliant blue waters cupped in a dramatically stark basin. This trip will involve creek crossings (wet feet), climbing up a short cliff on chains (bring gloves), mountains, a lake with fish, beautiful views. Shangri La.
Distance: 10km one way. 600m elevation gain including approx. 20m of chain.
Expect about 4 hours to hike in give or take

As we will be camping in a remote wilderness area, we will be practicing Leave no Trace principles. Pack out what we pack in. We may or may not have a fire as the wood in the area could be scarce. I haven't been to the specific area before so the conditions are unknown at this time and allow time for route finding.

Itinerary:
SATURDAY – Early morning drive out to the trail head, haul in to the site, chill for a bit, option to go up the pass if you still have energy or go fishing. Have dinner maybe a miniature potluck. Main meal is your own but bring a very light snack to share. Note - having a campfire may not happen so don't count on it, be prepared.
SUNDAY - We will explore the area, climb a hill or two, go for a swim, fish or just chill out
MONDAY - After a morning breakfast hike out and head back. Do not be in rush to get back to Calgary, we'll be back late as we'll stop in Longview or Black Diamond for refreshments depending what on time we get out.

Note:
- This is a fun anything really goes event
- Co-ed event so share tents. Sharing is good as it means a lighter pack
- This is a random camping event. No facilities. Practice Leave No Trace.
- Speed will be moderate but definitely not for super slowpokes
- It's bear country so you'll really need to practice bear awareness and safety.

Gear: You will need your own backpacking gear. Tent mates can be arranged if you don't already have one. Co- ed tenting. Any group gear will be pre-arranged. Be prepared to help carry any group gear if needed. See link for personal backpacking gear if you are new to this, but lighter is more. Contact me if you have not backpacked before.
Typical Backpacking List (the lighter the better. Did I mention the 600m elevation gain?).
