**Come prepared for windy conditions at the lookout as well as possible mud, snow or ice on various sections of trail.
From the trailhead, we will hike along the old lookout pack road to the foot of the mountain. From there we will find a very well constructed set of switchbacks that will take us all the way to the top of the first peak. At this point the trail levels out for a while as we head for the main peak and the final ascent to the fire lookout. We'll take a break here and then scramble along the ridge to the Northern Outlier. This involves losing & gaining some elevation and walking along a ridge. Moose Mountain is located halfway between the prairies and the first range of the Rocky Mountains offering an unparalleled view for 160 km in all directions.
