IMPORTANT - Read:

the coordinator prior to being moved to the attendee list:
There will be no pre-trip meeting. Coordination will be done via e-mail and it is expected that you respond within 24 hours if information is required. In case the weather looks like lots of rain for both days, the even may be cancelled.
Now onto the fun stuff :-).
Trail Stats & Description: This backpacking trip is geared towards testing out all of our gear for the season. We expect to get to the tarns around noon, which will then have the afternoon/evening free where people may wish to simply relax, or explore (pending conditions). It isn't much different from backcountry camping, but means that there is no campground - no table, no firepit, no outhouse, and no food lockers or food hang poles (feel free to bring those small backpacking chairs or whatever you wish). All food, toiletries, and other 'smellables' must be stored in bear-proof containers that are designed/sold specifically for this purpose (i.e., you cannot just bring any other plastic/cheapo container for this). As far as I know, these cannot be rented, but can be purchased from places like MEC. The hike up to the wonderfully scenic Sparrowhawk Tarns isn't very long, but gains about 680m of elevation and is along a pretty undefined path. Once in the subalpine zone, "Cliffs are now visible on both sides of the canyon. You can also glimpse Spray Lakes Reservoir northwest. ... The Sparrowhawk Tarns are numerous, scattered throughout the farthest reaches of the cirque. Their namesake, Mt. Sparrowhawk, is north, linked by a long, southeast-trending ridge to Mt. Bogart." (Where Locals Hike in the Canadian Rockies: the Premier Trails in Kananaskis County near Canmore + Calgary by Kathy & Craig Copeland).
