Itinerary:
Paved Road/Pathway Cycle Event - Total Distance 65km - Relaxed pace

*NOTE:* We have room for at least 7 in the original carpool so taking your bike on the train to Westbrook Station may be an option for some. Bikes are permitted on the LRT weekdays during non-peak hours & anytime weekends.

Although we will be travelling at a relaxed pace, this event is not suitable for beginners. Ideally, you should have previous experience cycling similar distances and be comfortable maintaining a speed of 20km/hr for stretches at a time. With that being said however, we'll be out to enjoy the day and spending some time at a few scenic rest stops along the route. If you're more of a speed cyclist who prefers a continuous ride at a steady pace, this event is definitely NOT for you.

We'll start at the visitor's centre in Canmore, (see map below) and follow the paved trail to Cascade Ponds (approx. 19km). Here we'll regroup and indulge in a brief rest stop where you can grab a snack, refreshment or just enjoy the views. Next we'll make our way a short distance to Tunnel Mountain Road where we'll embark on a scenic 7km road ride into the heart of Banff. Shortly afterwards we'll arrive on the shores of the Bow River and eventually the very popular Bow Falls. We'll take another break here, then quickly escape the crowds as we begin a luxurious 12km paved loop through the Banff Springs Golf Course before beginning our journey back to Canmore. Total distance approximately 65km.

The Banff Legacy Trail, built to commemorate Parks Canada’s 125th anniversary, was completed in the fall of 2010. It is a scenic three metre wide, 22 kilometres-long, commuter trail. The route runs parallel to the highway and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains. In 2013 the trail was extended an additional 4.5 km from the Banff park east gate to the Canmore Visitor Centre.

Note:Priority may be given to those who can haul more than their own bike. When you register, PLEASE answer the carpool question. Those who cannot accommodate any passengers are still welcome to drive themselves but obviously we are hoping to carpool as many as possible.
