Yet Another^TM Winter Extravanganza.

Experience nature. Return to simplicity.

We're going to spend a weekend in the Rampart Creek Wilderness Hostel.
Experience a unique, "off-the-grid" Canadian getaway. You'll be able to savour true silence, night skies bursting with stars and the knowledge that some of the world's most magnificent landscapes are, really, right outside our door. These hostels with their simple comforts immerse you in the natural splendour of the Rockies. There is NO hiking in. It's a drive up hostel. Well we might have to slide for 200m to get to the front door if its slick.

Note that this is a BASIC Wilderness Hostel. . Expect very basic facilities. Be prepared to be staying in a big shared cabin (bring ear plugs and eye covers if you are a light sleeper). There is a common kitchen and outhouse, no shower facilities (wet wipes are awesome) but there is drinkable water for cooking and a SAUNA. There is minimal solar electricity, has propane lights and stoves. The individual huts are stove heated.

The Plan:
Friday – Drive out in the morning. Along the way stop to do a snowshoe hike (TBD). Check in the hostel in the afternoon. Have a potluck dinner, eat, chat, be merry.
Saturday – Do a potluck breakfast, Go do a snowshoe nearby. Dinner on own or leftovers from the day before.
Sunday – Wake up, breakfast on own. Head to Banff stop over for hotsprings, shower and dinner. We will likely be back in Calgary late so don't plan on needing to rush back.

Note we will not be going into Class 2 or higher avalanche terrain. Conditions will be checked prior to the start date. Note:
- I will need 12 people to make this work at this cost since I've booked one whole cabin.If there are fewer than 12, the additional cost will shared among those going.
- I will need enough drivers. Those who are not driving may be moved to the waitlist until I get enough drivers for the carpool
- Payment is due immediately upon registration. Email transfer the funds to me or pay me cash at one of my events.
- You may be moved to the waitlist if payment is not confirmed.
- There will be no refunds unless a suitable replacement can be found in which case the replacement will be paying you directly. The coordinator will not handle any further transactions beyond the initial one.

Required Items to Bring:
- Potluck food for dinner and breakfast
- Typical hosteling/camping gear, bring your own mug.
- Indoor slippers for the cabins
- Toiletries
- Warm winter clothing. NO COTTON
- Extra water for your own needs. Potable water is available there but not for washing up.
- Small pack plus a water bottle for daytrips
- Personal snacks
- Snowshoes
- Ski goggles and/or winter sunglasses
- Hiking poles with snow baskets
- Headlamps
- Personal first aid kit
- Swimsuit for the SAUNA and hot springs
- Park Pass if you have it

Approximate vehicle expense for this event is $247.50 (calculated at total Km * $0.33, effective Friday, May 15, 2026). This is based on $0.16/Km for maintenance, plus current gas price divide by 9. Alternately your carpool driver may choose to split the maintenance cost plus the actual gas cost among all in the vehicle. Your carpool driver will confirm exactly how much money they require to cover costs. Please split the actual cost among all people in the vehicle.

Terrain Classification: This event is exempted from avalanche planning because its a hostel in a non-avalanche area. However attendees are being asked to be aware of possible avalanche areas for their day trip activities.
