Itinerary: | |||||||
Elevation Gain: 1314m Distance: 14.4 km round trip Proper hiking footwear, sorry no runners or jeans. Mount Allan is the highest trail in the Canadian Rockies. Few ridgewalks in this or any other range buoy you for so long above treeline. But it's rarely level. You're in for a long, steadily steep, northwest ascent of Mount Allan's southwest summit ridge, all the way to the 2820-m peak. You'll follow the Centennial Ridge Trail, built by Calgary's Rocky Mountain Ramblers to celebrate Canada's 1967 Centennial. The trail rapidly launches you out of the trees. Views are constant and grow more spectacular as you climb. Mt. Allan snuggles among striking peaks: Mount Lougheed, Sparrowhawk and Bogart. I've decided not to make this hike a one-way traverse of the entire trail as the north-side trail soon plunges into forest. PACE:Please note that this
is not a hike for slowpokes, we will be hiking at a
steady pace, and take short
breaks to enjoy the views and take pictures. If you're not
sure about this hike, feel free to contact the coordinator and
remember to always hike within your ability in order to be
able to keep up with the group. If you have not hiked before or recently hiked
with 800M+, it is highly
recommended that you start with lower elevations and build
up from there. If you're used to "slowpoke pace hikes" then this hike
is not for you-NO beginners
please.
