Pace: slower ascending, moderate otherwise, taking time to admire the scenery

We will be staying together as a group at my pace for the entire hike.
This event is not for those that are use to a quick pace or like to wander off or race ahead.
If you need to be back to the city by a certain time it would be best not to sign up. We are out to enjoy the day and our time on the trail may vary.

This will be a long day with lots of distance to cover. This is prime grizzly bear territory and not a busy trail, we'll stay together and all participants will hike to the “Peak”. There will be no option to stay at the Pass. This event is best suited to those who have completed hikes with big distances and elevation gains this summer.

Hike Description
Trailhead to Lower Twin Lake: approx 8 kms, 600 m elevation gain
Lower Twin Lake to Gibbon Pass: approx 2.9 kms, 245 m elevation gain
Gibbon Pass to "Peak": approx 1.5 kms, 295 m elevation gain

LET’S GO FOR THE GOLD! The golden larches that is! It appears lots of the larch trees have turned yet some are still working their way to gold so this weekend they should still offer up a prime time viewing. The initial eight kilometers gradually ascend through the forest then views open up at Lower Twin Lake. The real show begins when we leave Lower Twin Lake and shortly there after begin to ascend through a larch-dominated subalpine forest. The profusion of larches here is as sensational as anywhere in the range. Gibbon Pass is a vast meadow filled with larches and tiny tarns all surrounded by peaks and mountains. We will ascend to one of those peaks where we will have views of Shadow Lake below and massive glacier-crowned Mount Ball nearby. I have only hiked to the Pass but have wanted to reach the Peak so we will work together to find our way up to it. We then have the return trip ahead of us which will be all downhill as we will return the way we came.
