The trail winds and switchbacks steadily upwards through forest with few opportunities to catch your breath. The tree cover doesn't allow for many viewpoints along the way but the summit boasts a full panorama of prairie, foothills, and snowy peaks! Will need Microspikes. Snowshoes are probably not needed but have them just in case. If you can manage Prairie Mountain summit in 1.5 hours you'll be fine for pace. After the hike, we'll head over to Cochrane for refreshments and maybe a late lunch/early dinner depending on what time we finish the hike. Don't be in a rush to head back.

Elevation gain: 830 m
Distance: 13 kms return

- If you're not in shape this might not be the hike for you. We'll be moving at a steady pace. If you can do Prairie Mountain in 1.5 hours you'll be fine. You might see me trotting downhill.
- Expect winter conditions
