Itinerary:
The 10th Annual Picnic Hike at Stanley Glacier

Elevation Gain: about 450m
Total Distance:10km or so

The location for the hike/picnic has been changed to Stanley Glacier upper plateau. If it turns out to be too windy at the trailhead then we may do nearby Arnica Lake instead.

From the trailhead we work our way up through a sparse forest of Lodgepole Pines that are in the early stages of growth due to a forest fire here in 1968. There are many new patches of burnt forest as the fires of 2003 ate their way through here too. After gaining good elevation, we break out and views of the glacier open up towards us. The trail is gentle for a while till the last stretch, and we end up climbing up across boulder strewn slopes and emerging upon a small plateau. From here we will carry on to a higher plateau and a more demanding view of the glacier and valley.

Please bring one food item to share. Healthier food options are encouraged. No junk foods please. It would also be nice to have a few bottles of sparkling wine or non alcoholic drink. Tupperware is quite helpful to keep foods intact in your daypack. Icepacks can be used to keep foods cold. I will bring paper plates, cutlery, drink glasses, napkins and tablecloths.

***If you already know what food item you will be bringing, please indicate in the 'Notes' field when signing up.***

This hike is best suited to intermediate/fit hikers as we will go at a steady pace. While this hike is spectacular on its own, please do not sign up unless you are willing to participate in the picnic.
