Itinerary:
This event involves a short car shuttle - drivers will be given priority.
Great event for early risers and experienced hikers who love gorgeous scenery. It'll be a long day but very rewarding, so don't be in a rush to get back to Calgary as we'll go for dinner in Canmore after the hike.
There might be some very minor bushwhacking and scrambling involved. Our pace will be brisk given the distance we will be covering, so not for super slowpokes. There will be enough stops for photo taking to catch your breath. If you're not sure about this hike, feel free to contact the coordinator and remember to always hike within your ability in order to be able to keep up with the group. You should have recently completed hikes with over 700m in elevation and similar distances. This is a through hike, no turning back once we go in. Note I haven't done this specific route before so allow for route finding.

This has to be one of most scenic loop hikes in K-country. If you like open terrain, far-reaching views and opportunity to hike out on a different path from hike-in then this trip is for you. We will leave one vehicle at Burstall pass parking lot where the hike will finish, then car shuttle down the road. Our hike will consist of the following:

DISTANCE - approx 19KM
ELEVATION - approx 1100M gain in total, give or take:
Esimtated hiking time ~ 6-7 hours give or take.

Route plan:
- Smuts Pass Trail. 6 km, approx 700m elevation. Valley floor hiking for first 5 km, followed by steep headwall ascent (Scramblish at places) to Smuts Pass. Enjoy the views of the Birdwood lakes with Birdwood mountain behind them.
- Highline Smuts - Birdwood base - Burstall Pass Traverse. 4.5 km, approx 300m elevation gain. Highlight of the hike. Mostly off-trail with some ups and downs with spectacular views throughout.
- Burstall Pass trail hike out. 8 km, 470 m elevation loss. Extremely popular trail, mostly forest hiking in the valley south of Mt. Burstall, Pigs Tail and Commonwealth Peak.

- Fun anything goes adventurous event, if you're picky about stuff, this may not be the event for you.
