Sulphur Mountain is a great training hike and a great summit for those newer to hiking. The trail is wide and has a very consistent grade. However, due to the snow, you will need either proper winter hiking boots with great traction or traction devices (such as Microspikes) to put over your boots.

We will meet and begin at the Sulphur Mountain trailhead sign. The ascent will probably take us around 1 hour, 45 minutes to 2 hours to reach the gondola station. Once up top and if the group feels like it, we can go a little bit further to the Cosmic Rey Station. The Sulphur Mountain gondola building is fully renovated and now features an extensive exhibit area. The plan is to eat our packed lunch inside the building. There also are warm washrooms. After lunch we will take the gondola down, which is free at this time of year for those who hike up.

Event Fee / Premier Membership:
All of our events have a $3 event fee, payable to your coordinator at the start of the event. Alternatively you may choose to get a Premier membership for $25, which is valid for 12 months from date of purchase. Premier members enjoy preferred sign-up to subsidized events (i.e., First Aid course, etc.), overnight events, and can attend as many events as they wish without paying an event fee each time. You can also get a Premier membership from your coordinator at the start of an event.

Carpool:
Although this event does not have a carpool, you may wish to informally arrange with other participants. COC suggests all members in a vehicle split the costs equally (gas + maintenance, etc.). This trip is 260km return from Calgary x $0.26/km = $67.60.

Note: If you have previously delayed my events, please do not sign up. You will be removed from the attendee list without warning.

How to Get There:
Event Directions:We will meet at the trailhead sign at the Upper Hot Springs Parking Lot. To get to the trailhead, drive Mountain Avenue up the mountain from Banff. Once you pass the Rimrock Hotel, the road forks. Go slightly right to the Upper Hot Springs parking lot (do not go left to the lower parking lot for the gondola). The trailhead sign is near the entrance to this parking lot, just where the road bends 180 degrees to the hot springs.

Notes:

Winter Safety Considerations
This event is exempt from avalanche planning, as it is considered to be generally free from avalanche hazards due to its location at a tourist attraction.
