Itinerary:
Itching to get out and backcountry camp and hike? If so, please join me for this overnighter backcountry hiking/camping trip.

Please note, we will be trekking at a moderate pace, starting the trek from the Buller Mountain Day Use carpark on the Smith Dorrien-Spray Lakes road (Highway 742); and trekking up to Buller Pass. From there we will descend to Ribbon Lake and set up camp for the night.

First Day - Buller Pass to Ribbon Lake Campground (plus optional late afternoon/early evening side hike to Ribbon Falls):
Distance: 10.5 km to campsite (plus 6 km optional round trip distance to Ribbon Falls for a late afternoon/early evening side hike)
Elevation gain: 671 m gain to Buller Pass, 432 m loss down to Ribbon Lake (plus optional 250 m loss then gain round trip to Ribbon Falls)

We will travel the Buller Pass trail to Ribbon Lake (approximate time will be 4 hours). We will be taking some breaks along the way to relieve our bodies of our pack weight and to take in the beautiful views of where we will be going. Once at the Ribbon Lake campground, we will set up camp. For those interested in doing a late afternoon or early evening hike, we will be hiking down to Ribbon Falls (which entails going down and back up the infamous chains) - 3 km one way (250 m loss) down to the falls.

Second Day - early morning hike to Guinn's Pass; pack up gear; return to Calgary:
Guinn's Pass hike distance: approximate 10 km round trip
Guinn's Pass hike elevation gain: approximately 709 m gain, then 709 m loss on return

Ribbon Lake to carpark distance: 10.5 km Ribbon Lake to carpark elevation: 432 m gain to Buller Pass, 671 m loss to the carpark

We will put on our day packs and head to Guinn's Pass with an early start. Once back at the campground, we will pack up and head back out via Buller Pass. Checkout time is 2:00 PM on Sunday.

This trip is rated D5 because it is a backpacking trip with hiking. I have four sites reserved for one tent/two people per site and one site reserved for one tent/one person. The campground has two toilets, bear lockers, two fire pits and tables. Water source is close for filtering water. You must be prepared to pair up with someone for this trip.

Please note, the coordinator will be vetting all sign-ups for fitness level and past experience, to ensure all sign-ups are approximately the same level. You will be moved to the waiting list until payment has been sent.
