Departing from the same trailhead as Chester Lake, we'll head one valley to the south. Headwall Lakes is a bit more challenging, but we will be rewarded with lakes and waterfalls. Beginning on an old logging road, (now ski trail in winter) we will start with a fairly level walk through forest. Breaking off onto an undeveloped trail we will follow Headwall Creek to the cascade coming down from the first headwall. An abrupt ascent will launch us onto a Karst pavement and towards the lower Headwall Lake. The view extends to the Great Divide. After a brief rest at the first lake, we will continue to the upper Headwall Lake via a short but steep section that involves maneuvering ourselves over roots and rocks. Once there, we will be treated to amazing views and a well deserved lunch break by the water. We'll return the way we came.

As always, the stated hiking time is an estimate only. We will be out to enjoy the day and not in a rush to finish. If you have concerns about being back in the city by a certain time please refrain from registering.

Note: This is an exploratory hike and some route finding may be necessary.
