Itinerary: | |||||||
This blue-green tarn lake cradled in a basin
under Mt. Bryant is known
as the "Only Sizable Body of Water in the
Fisher Range" according to
Gillian Daffern. A simple rustic weekend
getaway. This is random
wilderness camping, just like in the old days
before designated sites.
Sleep under the gaze of Mt Bryant and the
stars. Listen to the waters of
the lake lapping the shore. No facilities. The
route in initially follows
a rocky river bed, there will be some
clambering over washed out
boulders from the last flood after which we'll
look for the original trail. Good option for
those newer
to backpacking and wanting a road less
travelled. Note your coordinator has not
done this route before so there will be some
route finding and some bush
whacking involved. Expect route finding
shenanigans like the search of the holy
grill with the burning rock. Distance: approx 7.2km one way Elevation Gain: approx 500m. Notes: - You should be able to stick with the group and not shoot off on your own. - You should be reasonably fit and have at least done a few hikes of similar distance and elevation this year (and remember to add the weight of your backpack to this equation) - Our pace will be moderate and your pack should not exceed 35lbs all in, lesser is preferable. A lighter pack also = a more enjoyable trip instead of huffing it. - This is a fun anything goes event. If you're uptight about stuff, might not be the event for you. - See notes below about food storage | |||||||
