|Wilderness overnight camp and backpack. Do a
hike out to a wilderness location,
overnight, have a campfire dinner and breakfast
and go home the next day. |
This will be a bit of a bushcrafty type (ever make tarp/tent pegs from branches?) weekend where there will be be mucking around with wilderness skills such firecraft, shelter- building, basic navigation, the use of tools such as knives, saws and axes, foraging, water sourcing, stuff you've seen on Youtube movies and want to try out etc. Practice leave not trace etiquette as far as possible. Make a spoon too if you want.
If you're new to wilderness skills, just come and play and watch and maybe learn a thing or two and just tent it. If you spend anytime in the wilderness, its useful to learn what can help you if you're ever stuck overnight.
This is a wilderness event, so no facilities. We'll be using the resources available to set up camp. See basic skills and techniques at work, find out what works and what doesn't and the myriad of options when you're in the bush with minimal gear.
I think cooking over a campfire is an awesome community event, let's also do a mini potluck, share some food for dinner and breakfast.
Distance: 2-4km one way (maybe even less). Not
going very far as
the aim is to have more fun than work but we
will be scavenging
for firewood (a saw is very useful here).
Event will be weather dependent
