Sibbald Flats
Distance: 15-16 km
Elevation Gain: 100m

As we begin COC MTB rides again let's start off easy. This trail used to see more events but as new trails appeared around West Bragg it saw less traffic. To avoid potential crowds at more popular areas I thought we would check out this trail again and go earlier than the crowds. Fair warning, its a few years since I last did this trail so we'll see how the memory is. We've lost people before (only temporarily) on this trail because there are a couple of options in a couple of spots.
As there is no such thing as an "easy" mtn bike ride in COC ratings, it is technically a moderate mtn bike ride, but as easy a one as you could hope for.

This event is for beginner/novice riders who want to try a mountain trail without having to push and carry the bike over long difficult sections. Or to suss out a new bike. It is a good introduction to off-road cycling for beginners. Advanced riders should enjoy the views (and company) but you might find the pace a little slow. If you are an experienced rider your knowledge and skills will be appreciated and helpful to the group. The intent is to have some fun, some pain, develop skills and try different trail conditions at your own pace. There won’t be any pressure to try sections you don’t feel comfortable with.

The trail is 16.5km with about 100m of elevation gain. This trail is well drained and creek crossings are bridged. There are some gentle downhills, good vistas, and passes through open meadows and forests. There is single-track, double-track and some gravel road.

We will ride from Dawson to Spruce Woods trailhead (7km) and stop for a break there. It has picnic tables and nice views. Depending on the group and a decision at the time we may add in a little extra of Tom Snow or just return the way we came.

This trail (#36 page 72) is described in detail in 1999 edition of "Backcountry Biking in the Canadian Rockies" by Doug Eastcott.

Additional information can be found on Trailforks with this trail being part of the longer Tom Snow North trail.
