Itinerary: |
PLEASE NOTE: Because of the
Covid situation, this will be an
online only event. We haven't
run this as an online event
before so it could be a little
impromptu. The important thing
is that it will give you an
opportunity to ask questions
about and possibly take your
first steps towards becoming a
volunteer. Being an online event
we won't have to be afraid of
virus transmission for Covid.
Details will be emailed in
advance but most likely Zoom or
Google Meet.
PLEASE
NOTE: Priority will be given to
PREMIER members. Regular
members will be added if space
permits. Unfortunately regular
members may also get moved back
to the wait list if a priority
sign up fills the list. This
will be at the coordinators
discretion and apologies are
offered in advance.
The COC Training Program
The objectives of the Calgary
Outdoor Club Training Program
are to:
a) provide
educational sessions to members;
b) raise awareness about
different aspects of the
outdoors
c) increase the members'
safety while
enjoying their activities in the
mountains and
d) provide everyone the
opportunity to ask pertinent
questions.
SESSION:
This session is aimed at Premier
members and regular members, who
may have an interest in
coordinating events for the COC.
The club has a process for
inducting coordinators that aims
to ensure a standard most of our
members appreciate. We are
always looking for volunteers
although don't often actively
recruit new coordinators and
potential coordinators are
typically left to initiate the
process themselves. However the
Executive Board would like to
extend an invitation to anyone
who may have an interest, to
join us and find out more about
what's involved. We feel some
new recruits will enhance our
efforts and add more events to
our calendar. This benefits
everyone in our club and
coordinators are a large part of
what we do.
BE WARNED: the process is long
and arduous, involving
pilgrimages of thousands of
miles on foot, trials by fire,
and immense personal
sacrifice.... OK sorry, I'm
kidding.
While the process involves a
number of considerations, the
club wants to ensure the role is
conducted in a responsible
manner. The hardest part is
having to use html in your event
write ups but if I can manage
it, I'm sure we can get you
understanding the basics.
Your Training coordinator -
Grant
In this session you will not be
obligated to continue further
but this is an opportunity to
find out a little more about
whats involved. We'll explain a
little about it to blow away the
cobwebs of mystery surrounding
getting "your star". You'll have
plenty of opportunity to ask
questions.
Should you decide to proceed and
become an event coordinator we
will assist you to move along in
the process. There will be
further sessions to familiarize
you with setting up events;
additional functionality on the
website that comes along with
volunteer status; the duties and
responsibilities involved; and
allow you to ask the myriad new
questions that will occur to
you.
