If you are a fast hiker who dislikes stopping and waiting for the group, this hike will not be a good fit for you.

Trail description (from Parks Canada): "This trail follows Healy Creek to its source amid open meadows above the treeline. Wildflowers bloom profusely from mid-July to late August..."

The trail starts in the trees with a gradual incline, becoming steeper as it approaches the treeline. Once in the meadow, the trail continues up, but the flowers and views will allow for plenty of opportunities to justify a few stops to catch your breath and enjoy the moment. We should be there at the right time to see Paintbrush (in every shade of pink!), Anemones, Asters, Heather, Arnica and maybe even some late Glacier Lilies in the meadows on either side of the pass - to go along with stunning views of Egypt Lake and many nearby peaks. Hopefully our earlier start will also give us fewer crowds on the trail and at the pass - and allow us to miss any afternoon thunderstorms that pop up. Note that lunch may be shortened or delayed until we are back in the trees if weather becomes a concern.

How to Get There:
Event Directions:Head west on Highway 1 west from Calgary. Pass by the Banff townsite and take exit for the Sunshine Village Ski Area. Follow the Sunshine Village Access road (~6 km) until you reach the parking area. You'll see a barricade preventing you from nearing the buildings, but there will be Parks Canada parking with portable outhouses in the overflow lot to your right. I'm driving a silver Toyota Matrix with a roof rack. If it's really busy (likely, I will stand near the outhouses to meet everyone.

Allow at least 1hr 40 min if driving from Calgary (city centre).

We will be starting our hike at 8:30 a.m. to try and beat the heat (and afternoon T- Storms), so please aim to arrive 10 - 15 min early to allow time to meet, dress and use the facilities - thanks!
