Join me for a couple of YouTube videos and
discussion
regarding Snow Shoeing.
Can you just watch these videos on your own without attending the event? Well, of course you can! But if you want to join some discussion with other COC'ers about this topic and/or these videos, this event is for you. Everyone is welcome for this event. It is geared for beginners, but if you're more than a beginner, consider yourself an "expert" who can come out and answer some questions and impart some wisdom. Agenda: - 6:00: Zoom: Welcome - 6:10: YouTube: Snowshoeing Basics: Movement and Techniques: Jared Manninen: 15:08 - 6:25: Zoom: Discussion Safety - Avalanches and Tree Wells: - Avalanche: Avalanche safety is well beyond the scope of this event. Take an approved avalanche course if you're going to go any place that isn't an official snowshoe route. - 6:??: YouTube: Tree Wells - a compilation and a summary: Emilio Trampuz: 7:35 - 6:??: YouTube: Lava Canyon walking into a small Tree Well and getting my snowshoes buried while out solo: Jeff Stovall: 15:41 total - start video at 8:00 and watch to about 12:00. He's by himself, and goes into the well at about 9:00. You can hear how afraid he is while he tries to pull himself out, and how exhausted he is when he's out. He says: "I have done this before except this time I ran into trouble. Stumbled into a tree well, or rather walked into soft spots under trees, with my snowshoes trapped under a bit of snow. You can't see it in the video, but by the end my left foot, wearing a snowshoe Was under about 2 ft and change of snow. I managed to free them and climb out. " - 6:??: Zoom: Discussion More info re: Tree Wells: Blog plus Video from ACC | |||||
