Distance : Total 9.2 km round trip (return to Chester Lake Parking Lot)
Total elevation gain : approximately 300 metres
Pace : Relaxed

Let's enjoy an outing in beautiful surroundings and in great company while getting a good work out. I have posted the departure time for bright and early, to avoid a full parking lot and a head start from others.

There is some elevation gain to contend with during the first few kms. Mainly switch backs. The pace will be relaxed, no speedsters please.

Trail description :

We will meet at the Chester Lake Parking lot for 9am. From there it is a 2km hike along switch backs, through a forest, into an open valley. There should be some great photo opportunities. Once we are in the valley, we will find a place closer to the snow covered lake for lunch. There are elephant rocks to the side of the lake, but its been a while since I have found those. I cannot guarantee I will get you to that spot.

We will not be going into avalanche terrain (far side of Chester Lake).

Let's enjoy an outing in beautiful surroundings and in great company while getting a good work out. The pace will be relaxed, no rushing please. Let`s enjoy the day and breathe in the mountain air!

How to Get There:
Event Directions:Take the Trans Canada Highway west from Calgary for approximately 70 km, then turn south on Highway 40 for approximately 50 km. Turn right onto the Smith Dorian road (perpendicular to Pocaterra) and keep driving for 20.8km until you see the Chester Lake parking lot on your right. Park in the lot. The Smith Dorian requires a 4x4 vehicle. That road can be icey during the winter. If you do not have a 4x4 I would highly not recommend driving on it. There is an outhouse there.
