Trail description Opal Ridge south is mostly a CHALLENGING and VERY STEEP OFF-TRAIL hike (no switchbacks). It is a bit of a slog heading up until we reach the rock pinnacles where the slope eases. The ridgewalk to the summit is gentle and unexposed. The summit offers SPECTACULAR views of the Opal Range to the east, Kananaskis Range to the west, and Kananaskis Lakes to the south. Note that we will be returning the same way.

This hike/scramble is best suited to experienced hikers. You should have completed in recent weeks hikes with at least 700 metres elevation gain - Icers remain mandatory as it is likely that there will be lingering snow / ice on the summit ridge. The trail conditions will determine how far we go. The beauty of Opal Ridge is that you get rewarded very quickly with some amazing views regardless how far we go.
